Fierce. Formidable. The Feminist Fatale. Miss Alyssa Kitt is both an artistic & intellectual chameleon. A powerhouse of Australian burlesque, feminist, writer, journalist & purveyor of the naked arts. She has been performing burlesque for 12 years, has competed for the title of Miss Exotic World, Queen of Burlesque at the Burlesque Hall of Fame and holds a swathe of Miss Burlesque Australia titles. She writes regularly on the public presentation of the body, burlesque, BDSM, sexuality & identity politics.
Known as The Dream Machine Made of Curves and Cream, Alyssa is powerhouse of burlesque world-renowned for her raw and powerfully athletic choreography, cascading strawberry blonde locks, brain-melting decadence and scintillatingly searing gaze. She’s competed for the title of Miss Exotic World at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas and was voted 38th in the world on 21st Century Burlesque's Top 50, making her appearance on the burlesque industry figures list two years in a row.
Performing burlesque since 2008, Alyssa has been a mainstay on the Australian burlesque scene during its emergent years of the neo-burlesque revival in Australia and has appeared as a headlining performer across various festivals and events both around the country and internationally. A deeply respected member of the Australian burlesque community, Alyssa has won numerous awards for both her performance and industry contribution to the artform.
Alyssa’s work in burlesque extends off the stage, combining her knowledge and experience as a trained historian, journalist and writer. Alyssa is the Director of the Australian Burlesque Museum and is dedicated to preserving Australia's history of striptease. Working closely with the expertly curated ABM team, she is developing some exciting projects and initiatives for the future.
She regularly teaches workshops and classes that focus on growing confidence, fostering self love and reigniting deep internal connection.
In 2020, Alyssa is set to make the move to New York City to undertake doctoral studies in theatre and performance studies at City University New York with proposed thesis on burlesque’s capacity to decolonise and destabilise patriarchal society.
