Burlesk Con of the Carolina

The 3rd annual Burlesk Con of the Carolinas brings together three days of burlesque shows, classes, workshops, history, education, and community in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The convention celebrates the history and contemporary vitality of burlesque in the Carolinas, with programming including a North Carolina burlesque history exhibit, speaker panels, workshops, performances, the Wiggle Room Competition, and the Icon Showcase.
As part of the weekend, I will be performing The Gilded Birdcage in the Icon Showcase, bringing my workshop Slow and Sensual: Accessible Burlesque, and speaking on the North Carolina history panel about my first tour to the region in 2012.
I’m especially moved to return to North Carolina in this context. That first tour was part of my early international burlesque life, and it is very meaningful to come back more than a decade later with a body of work that now brings together performance, access, history, and disability-led burlesque practice.
Burlesk Con of the Carolinas emphasizes education, history, celebration, and preservation of the artform through acknowledgement, affirmation, and inclusion. I’m thrilled to be joining a weekend that honors regional burlesque histories while creating space for contemporary artists, producers, competitors, students, and audiences to gather, learn, and celebrate.
